Bethel Reformed Church of Abbotsford, British Columbia recently had the opportunity to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. The celebrations were the culmination of work that spanned the previous year, and included the efforts of many in the congregation. The celebrations began with the hosting by Bethel of the BC Classis Meetings. Those who attended the meetings were gifted with an commemorative pen. The first night of the classis meetings is always a praise evening and this one was extra special as many of Bethel’s people came out, and all the churches of the BC classis were invited to
come
and join us for the
service. Many came out and a wonderful time praising God for His awesome
goodness ensued. On the Sunday of the weekend, many of the classis delegates
had already returned home but now the church was once again full as this was
the day that all former Bethel members for whom we still had addresses had
been invited to join us. Children, brothers and sisters who had moved away
and many others came to praise God with us. The Mayor of Abbotsford, the
President of the Reformed Church and representatives of some of our sister
churches here in the city all came to add their congratulations and
thanksgiving for God’s work in the life of Bethel Church. The Sunday service
ended with a time of fellowship and light lunch in the Fellowship Hall
downstairs. The anniversary celebrations ended on a quiet note as the current members of Bethel came together on the Friday after the weekend for a catered dinner and some reflection of times past and times yet to come. God’s work was retold in many reminiscences–some funny and some poignant. Bethel thanks God for all He has done, and prays His guidance for many years to come. Written by – Audrey VanderSchans |
