In early November, a discernment team
from the regional synod will be travelling to
Africa with Derrick Jones, supervisor of RCA
mission in Africa, to meet with local
church leaders and to visit villages in northern
South Africa. We believe
God is calling the Regional Synod of Canada (RSC) to adopt a
village in Africa to minister to
those suffering from HIV/AIDS and other illnesses. The
purpose of this visit will be to discern God’s leading as to
whether this is his will and where he would have us provide
support in the areas of nutrition, education, and health
care.
Team members are Clarence Alkema
(Grimsby, Ontario), John and Margaret Kapteyn (RSC), Kathy
Wensink and Matthew Wensink (Welland, Ontario), and Becky
Wulkan (St. Albert, Alberta). The costs for each member will
be approximately $4,000 for this trip. Each member will be
responsible to pay this amount and no monies will be taken
from the Mobilizing for Mission Fund. However, if anyone
wishes to contribute specifically to this, they may send
donations to the RSC office marked “South Africa Team.”
Please pray for safe travel and God’s guidance.
