The Regional Synod of Canada believes we are called by God to play a
role in the social concerns of our nation and world. We should join with
others to be the voice of Christ in ensuring that His care for the poor
and downtrodden is communicated to our government and our people.
We thank God for two women from Hamilton who are helping us to fulfill
this role.
Louise MacRae represents the Regional Synod of Canada and thereby the
Reformed Church in America as a member of the Commission on Justice and
Peace of the Canadian Council of Churches. Louise, married to Steve and
the mother of Ellen, Holly and Faith has been active in various
leadership roles at Westdale Reformed for many years. Louise has joined
the CJP as she feels it is important for the church community to
identify and address systems which deny human dignity and freedom. She
feels we need to advocate more strongly for those who are not living in
a peaceful society.
The Commission on Justice and Peace provides a forum for:
-
sharing information and concerns among those involved in ecumenical work
on peace and social justice in Canada and the world;
-
reflecting biblically and theologically on peace and social justice, and
-
facilitating the cooperation of the churches in peace and justice
concerns.
Debbie van Hoeve represents the Regional Synod of Canada and thereby the
Reformed Church in America as a member of the Committee for Contact with
the Government (CCG), of the Christian Reformed churches in Canada
Debbie van Hoeve, is a member of Westdale Reformed Church
in Hamilton,Ontario. Together with husband Ben, they are parents to
Beth, John, Meghan and Tim. Debbie is Coffee Break Director and a member
of the Ontario Classis Women's Conference Team. Her commitment to be
part of CCG comes out of a concern that it is difficult for the American
based RCA office to effectively wade into the Canadian political arena.
It is a logical fit to partner with CCG to strengthen the voice and
impact of Christians for social justice.
The CCG strives to present a prophetic witness to Canadian governments
that demonstrates Jesus' ministry of justice today. All of our work
proceeds from commitments to biblical, theological and confessional
reflection, careful and relevant research, and constructive engagements
with governments. |
