God's Creation
Janice VanderPutten

Both the opening verse of the Book of Genesis (In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth) and in the first sentence of the Apostles' Creed (I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth), we confess God as Creator.

The Apostles' Creed is an expression of the faith of the early church. I hope that faith is still alive today, that we believe that God, through His mighty power, created the world out of nothing. As it is written in Col. 1: 16, "For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him."

We can see through the verses of both the Old and New Testaments, the awesome power of our God - as being omnipotent, exalted above nature, Master planner of creation, sovereign. The Lord speaks and all nature heeds His bidding. This is evidenced in the first book of the Bible Genesis I "And God said, 'Let there be...' And it was so."

When we look around us today we can see God's majestic splendor in many ways - the mountains, the vast array of stars at night, how the sun rises and sets, by looking at and holding a new born baby. God's handiwork is in all these things.

When you stop and take a break from your busy schedule it's surprising what you can notice, if you look of God's creation - the changes of the seasons, the beauty of nature - the list is endless. Through all these things and more, I have no trouble whatsoever believing that my God created and is the Creator of all.
