Title - Thanksgiving 1973 - Whom do you Thank?
Topic - Thanksgiving
This is a pleasant time of the year, when our nation is again nudged to celebrate Thanksgiving. Yet we may well wonder how many people really know why there is even such a special day set aside every year and whom do we thank anyway?
Christians know, at last they should know that we thank God our heavenly Father, but then they thank Him all the time as part of their regular life and prayer. So then there remains a large majority of people (who are also not reached by our Pioneer), who just go ahead and use that special day for all kinds of reasons without truly knowing why they have this special day set aside as a holiday.
Now what? Is there something here for Christians to do or say? May be I should start a banner-waving procession of Christians in every city and town to draw the attention of authorities and the news media and in that way announce that our entire country should thank God at this special time. Kind of a nice thought, in a way. Yet a little impractical. And then again, you may already have caught a little bit of the idea that I am trying to pass-on: namely, to thank God by simply announcing or showing thankfulness to others.
Have you read the last verse of Psalm 79 recently? Well, if not, let me remind you. of it: we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will thank You forever and forever, praising Your greatness from generation to generation." Wow!! What an opportunity ! What a challenge
Whom do you thank ? Yes, of course, you Thank God ! But how ? ? May be this time, even though you will not receive this issue of the Pioneer before Thanksgiving, yet you may well be able to find an opportunity to thank God in a different or maybe additional way.
May you all participate in a happy and continued THANKSGIVING.
