Hello from Camp Evergreen. From August 24 to 29 Calgary and Edmonton youth attended their yearly summer camp at Camp Evergreen, near Sundre, Alberta. The 55 campers included 30 juniors and 25 junior highs.

Arriving Sunday afternoon and evening, campers and counsellors alike introduced themselves and moved into their cabins to prepare themselves for a frosty night. Temperatures dropped below 0 degrees C and by morning, there were many red noses arriving for exercises.

Fortunately, this was our only really cold night. Things warmed up more each day and spirits remained warm throughout.

As each day warmed up camp really different parables in our morning got into motion. We studied ten different parables in our morning bible study groups. Then arts and crafts opened up. Junior High campers began work on four colourful banners, depicting God's truths Juniors worked on making some stuffed animals and dough figurines. Much time was spent participating in sports like canoeing, archery, trampoline jumping, football, baseball and kick bible study groups. Then arts and ball.

Each afternoon and evening some special activity was planned. These included hayrides (without any hay), horseback riding, hikes, weiner roasts, skit night, kangaroo court and camp-fire singing.

In between our many activities we all got together for good times and good food in the mess hall. As usual this included some joke telling, lost and found reclaiming, and cabin inspection. It's hard to believe, but Cabin 12 (Junior High Boys) won the award for the neatest cabin.

Who made camp possible for us all? First, and most important, God our Father. We thank him for the opportunity he gave us to go and the chance to share in good times and fellowship. We were able to enjoy his beautiful outdoors and his spiritual presence.

Who else staffed our camp? Emile Schmid was our director, spending long hours in preparing and planning. In the kitchen we had Ria Kamphorst, Louise Yarrow, Cecile Danen and Joanne Derix. Counsellors included Emile Schmid, Paul Nulton (pastor for the week), Alice Vrielink, Hank Vrielink, Jim De Montigny, and Brenda IC Van Soost with the Junior Highs. For V the Junior camp Dirk Vrielink, Maartje Konynenberg, Lucy Hulzebos, Wendy De Montigny, Joan Nulton, and Mary Anne Oevering were counsellors, camp Nurse was Janet LaMonte and Arts and Crafts counsellor was Wilma Dove

Add to all these our pre-school taga-longs: Vincent, Duncan, Raymond, Jeremy, Debbie, Marie and Tina and all 55 campers and you have the whole group that made up an exciting week of Christian fellowship. Everyone is welcome to come back again next year!
