Title - Is This What Our Government Calls Justice And Common Sense?

Topic -Homosexuality

The former Minister of Justice introduced, on December 10, 1992 - International Human Rights Day - a proposed Amendment that places "sexual orientation" in our Human Rights and Freedom Act. Well-funded and generally well-educated homosexuals have long been lobbying for something like this. We do not know what the bottom line of this Amendment will be. I believe it should be regarded as a "feeler" or "trial balloon", soliciting response. Yet, our concern should not just be the inclusion of this phrase into the Act: more so what the interpretation our Courts will give if and when this would be enacted into law? If the last two years are an indication of how our judge, feel, we should be prepared for the worst. Drastic changes are taking place outside of Parliament!

It is my conviction that this Amendment should be withdrawn or defeated. And the following are my reasons:

1. The Act already includes everything, covering gender, race, creed and colour. The phrase "sexual orientation", therefore, is unnecessary. It amounts to taking away inherent rights from a majority to give special or extra rights to a 3-5% minority.

2. The phrase "sexual orientation in our Human Rights Acts opens the door for other adopted behaviours not generally looked upon favourably or wholesomely. Think of prostitutes' orientation to "work the streets"; drug addicts' orientation to "must of feeling high"; alcoholics' orientations to "drink more than is good for them and others"; sexual promiscuous people to "thrive on indecency and thereby falling victim to STD." etc. These all struggle with adopted behaviour difficulties.

3. Homosexuality is unnatural and therefore abnormal. It is at our peril to divorce sexuality from morality. Heterosexuality was established by Divine Creation and differentiation of male and female. All my farm animals "know' this and behave accordingly, including the wild ones in the bush. Is our Government now endeavouring to annul this irreversible, immutable, irrevocable law for us Homo Sapiens?

4. Rights cannot be divorced from responsibilities. We have already too much of this; and we are paying a heavy price for it along the way. Rights are not absolute. We cannot be involved in everything and be responsible for nothing. Blaming others s easier than self-examination and correction, but in the end it is of no help to anyone.

5. There are situations and conditions which are wholesome to the raising of children and there are life styles that are the worst of all role modelling.

6. When and if this Amendment becomes law, court challenges may well lead judges to interpret "sexual orientation" to also cover, besides the above mentioned, incest, bestiality and paedophilia. These too are adopted behaviours.

7. Homosexuals are in the very high risk group for contracting AIDS, bringing unbearable suffering, debilitating confusion, wasting lives prematurely. It is a disease which is always fatal. Also, many people have died innocently because they received tainted blood from this group. Nor can we overlook that AIDS taxes our medical and social insurances to the breaking point; in the meantime you and I help pay for it. It is irresponsible to pass this Amendment.

8. If this Amendment would be enacted into law, our courts will further complete the round our Government does not deem politically expedient, i.e. declare homosexual "couples" spousal rights: social insurances, family privileges, adoption of children, etc. And all of this while judges are not accountable to the electorate.

9. Anthropologists have made exhaustive studies and concluded that sexual promiscuity brought tribes and nations to ruin and extinction. We should learn from history; it repeats itself. Our nation's well-being depends on the wholesomeness of time-tested moral and spiritual values. We certainly do not need another Zeus freeing someone from a Pandora Box, flooding the nation with devastating problems.

10. We all are invited to come with our sin-problems to God, confessing them and receiving forgiveness. Christ stands ready to break the power-cycle all sin. This is the route of God's blessing on our nation. Perpetuating sin is never called for.

Rev. Moerman encourages everyone to write a personal letter to the minister, with a copy to the P.M., the Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, your local M.P. and the Minister of Health, Hon. Benoit Boushard. (No postage is necessary on any of these letters). The new Minister of Justice is Pierre Blais, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ont. KIA OA6.
