Title - You Do Want Security
Topic - Assurance of Salvation
"Holy Father keep them in thy name, which thou hast given me" (John 17: 11)
Of course we want security for time and eternity. That is the reason we work and worship. We are willing to suffer now so we may have security later. People move from one place to another for greater security. Men change their jobs to better themselves. Better education is aimed at security. Military preparations on every hand have security in mind. Having said all this it seems that security is all that matters.
We humans are so materialistically minded that we tend to forget the spiritual side of security. It is the spiritual side of security Jesus nas in mind when He prays for His own in John 17: 11 "Holy Father. keep them in thy name, which thou ' hast given me, that they may be one, even as we are". Our greatest security even in material things lies in the spiritual security. You know the verse of scripture "Seek first the kingdom of heaven and these other things will be added unto you".
May the great concern of us be Spiritual Security, and Social Security will take care of itself. By this I do not mean that we are to be careless about Social Security but primarily be concerned about Spiritual Security. Jesus prays that his own be "kept from the evil or evil one". He teaches us to pray "Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil". Thus as He prays so would He have us to pray. We are in the world but not of the world says Jesus and He would not have us taken out of the world. We therefore need security in the midst of the world. He even speaks of his own as sheep in the midst of wolves. In His fold is our security.
The children of the kingdom gather together. They obey the orders "Neglect not the gathering together as the custom of some is". Hebrews 10 :25. There is security in the hearing of the Word. Preaching creates faith and assurance. In fact faith is the assurance of things hoped for. No wonder that some begin to doubt when they heed not the Word. The house of God is a house of Prayer for all people. It is not only a matter of believing but also praying. We are to b ring all our wants and needs before Him in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Read Philippians 4 : 6, 7. Do you see the importance of preaching and prayer for security.
Do you want to be sure that you are a kingdom child and therefore safe for time and eternity?
Then we must practice our Christianity. "Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father
is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from
the world." James 1 :27.
Our security is assured in Jesus' Prayer for us and in our unity with Him. This is good for time
and eternity.
