Title - Lenten Breakfast

Topic - Drayton reformed Church

The annual Lenten Breakfast, which is a highlight in our community each spring, was held at the Reformed Church (Drayton, Ontario) on Friday, March 21.

Almost 100 ladies gathered at 9:00 a.m. and were welcomed by Randy Reinders, who led the opening devotions.

Following the breakfast, prepared by the ladies of the United and Reformed churches, the ladies enjoyed a beautiful service with Ruth Bauman as guest speaker.

Ruth is a member of the Benton Street Baptist Church (Kitchener, Ontario), according to Gerda Hesselink who introduced the speaker. Her topic was "A Clear Focus in a Dark World.' Before she focused on her topic, Ruth shared with the audience a little about her family history. She grew up on a farm, four girls in the family, parents always busy, and like most families in those years, not much cash flowing around for luxury. But their Godfearing mother showed her daughters the value of a Christian home. Following years of happy marriage, Ruth's husband passed away suddenly at the age of 49. Those first years as a widow, raising two daughters, were difficult.

Ruth now devotes her time speaking at seminars, women's groups, lectures, etc. Her topic for this morning was based on Hebrews 12:1-5. Here we are urged to run the race (our daily lives) that lies before us with determination and to continue faithful to the end. Most important is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus every day.

Ruth shared with the ladies the importance of spending 'quiet time' with the Lord every day in our busy schedules. It was a great joy to listen to such an enthusiastic speaker.

A group of ladies presented special music. They favoured the audience with two selections: "Take My Life' and 'Wait For The Lord.'

An offering was taken for New Life Counselling Services.

Words of thanks go to the grade 7-8 students from the Calvin Christian School, who assisted with babysitting. Many thanks and appreciation go to the committee who organized such a beautiful program in this Lenten season.
