Memory Work
Madness!
Here are three ways
to help your group remember something:
Write the passage on a
chalkboard and read it in unison. Erase three words at a time
and re-read until the passage is fully erased.
Write the passage in bold
black letters on construction paper. Depending on the age of the
children, cut it into 5 - 15 pieces and have the children
assemble it. Store the puzzle in an envelope. (HINT: Use a
different colour for each child so that they know which pieces
are theirs when assembling in class.)
A day or two before your
class, write the passage on a piece of stationary and mail one
to each child. Tell them in class to check their mailbox that
week for something important!
______________
When children show you pictures they have
made, never ask,"What is it?" Say something like, "What do you
call your picture?" or "Tell me about your drawing."

Dare To Discipline
Staying in control of your
group may be your greatest challenge as a teacher. All your
creative ideas for crafts, storytelling, and Bible applications
will go unnoticed when your group is out of control! The LIFE
curriculum recommends using a candle to focus on worship. A
flame has long been the symbol of the Holy Spirit, and it works
as a calming influence on children as well.
"It gives them something to
focus on," says Wilma Mol, a former Grade 4 Sunday School
teacher. "It had a soothing effect, like a campfire. They soon
learned that while the candle was lit, the chatter had to stop.
And it did."
Use short, wide candles like
votives, to avoid danger of tipping. Use a sturdy candle holder
and set it in a pie plate as an extra caution. Keep papers and
books away from the flame.

Craft Corner The children in your class can each
make a Corner cute gift for a friend or family member from a
stretchy mini-glove!
Each finger of
the glove represents one member of their family. For some
children you wil have to remove some fingers and for others, you
will have to add some extras! Stuff the fingers with poly
stuffing. Draw facial features with a fine-tipped marker. Use
yarn bits to make hair and fabric scraps for a tie or dress. A
paper clip can be bent into a pair of glasses, and an earring
back can be a baby’s soother, as long as each finger looks
similar to a family member! Take a styrofoam cup and cut four cm
off the top. Weight the bottom with a few pebbles. Pull the
glove over the cup all the way to the bottom. Push the fingers
into the palm to form a "nest," and secure it with a dab of
glue. Write a message or verse on a pretty piece of paper, and
glue it to the front. (See picture for reference.)
