Pioneer Christian Monthly - June, 1998
News From North Central Ontario Greetings in the powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ from Sheffield, Guelph, Harriston, and Drayton. Besides the fact that Summer is upon us and beautiful weather is outside, many other exciting things are happening. As I write this, Ascension Day is soon upon us, and we look forward to celebrating this day with our churches. Harriston Reformed Church is planning on hosting an Ascension Day service and has invited the Palmerston and Listowel Christian Reformed Churches to join them. From April 24 to 26, there was a Senior Youth rally held in Woodstock. Members from both the Drayton and Harriston youth groups participated in this fun weekend. Jeff Kingswood was the speaker, and he spoke about "Putting on The Full Armor of God." The youth from Drayton have been quite busy recently, especially around Easter time. Drayton Reformed Church had a cantata on April 3 and 11, and due to the overwhelming attendance from those two nights, it was repeated on April 12. The Master’s Voice Players, adult choir, True Proclaimers, and children’s choir from Drayton Reformed all participated in this very meaningful production. On Palm Sunday, 10 individuals from the Drayton Reformed church did Confession of Faith. Jan Oosterman, an 80-year-old man, was baptized, and then he and his wife became members of the church. The Drayton and Harriston Junior youth groups look forward to the upcoming rally in Wainfleet, scheduled to take place on May 1-3. Genesis ‘98 was a big hit with the Drayton and Harriston Senior Youth groups. They took a coach down on March 6 to Michigan and stayed for the whole weekend. They were entertained by the inspirational speakers and the excellent music, and they enjoyed the fellowship with the rest of the hundreds of youth who were there. On April 7, Harriston held a Lenten breakfast. A few neighbouring churches were invited, and they all enjoyed a time of getting to know one another better, while filling their stomachs with delicious food. Harriston Church gathered together for a Congregational meeting and voted to have Greg Girard stay until the end of the year. He is a graduate of the Heritage Theological Seminary in Cambridge and has taken a Master’s Degree of Theological Study. He wants to continue studying and is enjoying his time with the Harriston Church, ministering to the congregation. Drayton Reformed Church hosted the Synod of Canada meeting on April 23- 25. Sheffield Reformed Church has felt the Lord demonstrating His Sovereign blessings in the key areas of their congregation. In Worship, there is unity and a unique awareness of the "glory" cloud of God’s presence with them. They praise the Lord for the planting, watering, and reaping of the harvest of the Lord as confessions of faith have been received with joy and thanksgiving. There hasn’t been any new news from the Guelph church, except that they are enjoying their new pastor, Rev. Dekorte. May you all feel God’s rich blessing through the Summer. Trish Curry is the Regional Representative for The Pioneer for North Central Ontario. |
